Assisting at horse events

To help fund the local group and to act as ambassadors for trail riding in general, we often assist at horse riding events. Over the years we have built up a reputation of being efficient and professional, which improves our image in the horse riding world.

What do we do at these events? Well it depends on what's required. At an endurance event we'll set out the route using marker tape, check that nobody has interfered with the route during the course of the event, and also act as a "rapid response" service should there be an emergency or other incident during the meet. This can involve escorting a vet or ambulance crew to the scene, tracking down a lost horse and/or rider or just about anything else!

We also assist at horse trials where we circulate around the course collecting the scores from the 'jump judges' and return them to the admin team who then keep everyone up to date with what's happening during the event. We're also ready to spring in to action should something untoward happen.

The Gloucestershire TRF group gets a donation from the event organisers. Participating TRF members each get £5 towards petrol costs (collect from the Treasurer at club night), and generally food & drink is provided free by the organisers. We also get the enjoyment of a day out and about, doing something useful, and promoting the image of trail riders.

If you want to join us, then please contact Jacky German - details here - or in person at the monthly meeting. Please don't worry if you've never done a horse event before as it's a great day out with friendly people in a nice setting. Everything you might need to know can be gleaned from other members, so why not give it a try?
